Solid Wood vs Veneer Furniture

Many people believe solid wood is a much better purchase than veneer when it comes to furniture.  That isn’t necessarily the truth.  When looking to purchase new furniture, you need to understand the difference between the two.

Solid wood has two categories, soft and hard.  These can consist of pine, cedar, redwood, birch, oak, etc.  Soft woods are normally not the choice for furniture as it does not hold up as well as hard woods.  Veneer is a solid piece of wood laminated to a less substantial piece of wood such as plywood or mdf board.

Veneer is actually stronger than solid wood in its natural state and will not warp with changes in temperature and humidity.  On your next furniture purchase, look at these two options.  If you aren’t looking for a family heirloom to pass on through the years, veneer furniture might be your perfect choice.
