How to Clean Window Blinds Part I

cleaning window blindsA few days after installing brand new window blinds, you’re sure to see some dust settling. As long as you frequently clean them, you’ll only have to wipe away a thin layer – the key is not to let them get built up with grime. The type of window blinds you have will determine how you clean them so check out the following advice for some helpful cleaning hints:

Vinyl or Aluminum Blinds:

  • Use an all-purpose cleaner on a damp sponge, cloth, or paper towels and wipe gently
  • For window blinds with a lot of dust build-up, remove the blinds and clean outside with a water hose, or put them in the bath tub to soak for 30 minutes. Just remember to line you tub with towels to avoid scratches line your bathtub with old towels (to avoid scratching your tub). You’ll find the dirt and dust come off easier with a pre-soak.
  • Rinse and re-hang

Fabric Blinds:

  • Clean the blinds in the direction of their designing by gently vacuuming in the open and shut position
  • Dampen a sponge to gently remove stubborn spots and then let air dry
